Lemonade stall set up by first year HEP for Centre for Social Action - November 2019

The Lemonade Stall was the first initiative towards Social Development programme by the class of First year  HEP.. This stall was an initiative by the Deanery Level Student Council Members towards helping the Centre for Social Action (CSA) for their Children's Day Programme on the 14th of November 2019, where approximately 200 children from underprivileged sections of the society come to CHRIST (Deemed to be University) main campus for a whole day of fun activities and interaction.
Funds were raised within the class and a menu for the stall was decided. With the money in hand the class decided for homemade lemon juice, mini samosas and sweets for the 200 children and CSA volunteers as well as 22 volunteers from the class. On the 14th of November one batch of the first year HEP volunteers had set out to the market for grocery shopping which included limes, sugar, salt, tomato sauce and paper plates. The other batch had gone out to get the mini as well as a few packets of sweets. Preparation for the lemonade was done in college itself and everyone was involved in chopping, squeezing and filtering the limes. The whole process took 2 hours after which was the outcome of refreshing and delicious lemonade. Setting up of the stall was done near Christ Junior College and the children had arrived for their snacks at 4 pm. The first year HEP volunteers all wore handmade badges with the quote “we make lemons sweet just for you" and were responsible with serving the children and everyone got a chance to do so, as this was the first collective initiative as a class it was very overwhelming and heartfelt and the most important part was the fact that it was a success.
This initiative brought out the sense of responsibility, sacrifice (since it was a Sunday and we were not getting any extra credit or certificate), teamwork, cooperation, fun in working together, selflessness, self satisfaction and a sense of service to others. The Lemonade Stall commemorated a  series of ongoing Social Development programmes taken up by first year HEP students making them involve in activities within and outside of college for a better pro-active student life whilst contributing to the society.
